For the past four years I have had the pleasure of doing sound design work for dozens of video games and films ranging from dating sims to horror movies. It all started with me making some impact and ambience sound effects for UCSC's Game Design and Art Collaboration's romance puzzle game, Sea Star Crossed Lovers. Below I have compiled examples of my sound design experience from the vast library of projects I've been a part of.
In game footsteps that I helped design and programmed through fmod and unity.(2024)
Sea Star Crossed Lovers(2021)
In Sea Star Crossed Lovers I was one of the sound leads and I designed the impact sound effects of the blocks hitting each other as well as some of the wave and wind ambience.
TacoCat(2023)
I was one of the sound Producers for GDA's 2023 game TacoCat and I helped oversee the production of the sound and music assets from our department. In addition I worked on the car engine noises.
Hell Mouth(2023)
For the game Hell Mouth I was the primary and only sound designer so I put together all of the sound effects that are heard throughout the adventure. Everything from the bone crunches to the clothes shuffling. That you hear was recorded and/or mixed by me either at home or in UCSC's music studio.
Avenoir Isles is a puzzle game centered around exploring an overgrown island and helping mystical creatures. For this game I worked on a handful of the sound design.
Meet The Rookie(2024)
I was one of two sound designers and music composers on Meet the Rookie. As it was a story driven experience I made a lot of one-shot sound effects to complement specific narrative beats. These sound effects were then implemented into the final game using Fmod. The game is still in development but here are some sfx I have designed so far.
For FPC's 2023 Alien Sci-Fi film, I was not only a producer but I also did some of the sound design work. A lot of the sci-fi sounds were designed on UCSC's very own vintage EMu synthesizer from the 1970s.
I was the head of sound for FPC's 2024 Misadventure film. My responsibilities included any sound design, composing, and mixing.
I was the recording engineer for this animated poetry short. I recorded the voice over actor in UCSC's music studio with a Neumann U87 microphone going into Logic.
For this Romantic Horror film I composed and also helped out a lot with the sound design, recording and mixing. One sound effect I'm particularly proud of is the shaker impact towards the end, that was recorded with a water bottle hitting a seat in a lecture hall.
Filtered Noise Composition
This is a soundscape I made for a sound synthesis class where the prompt was to only use types of noise as the initial source. Inspired by the movie The Thing, I made a horror storyline about a researcher discovering a beast hidden within a station. Every sound was composed in vcv rack using noise modules and different filters and then everything was arranged in Logic Pro.
UCSC Slugcast
As a podcaster for the slugcast I often had to design my own sound effects by editing sampled sounds or recording my own. I then had to mix those sounds alongside my processed voice and any music.
